New Promotion and Leadership Seminars and Masterclasses
Forces are increasingly wanting to provide support for their aspiring promotion candidates and prepare them for the opportunities ahead. Especially in aims to close the diversity gaps for minority ethnic and female officers in leadership ranks.
But often, the support offered tends to be basic, stating the obvious, signpost to confusing and ambiguous College of Policing guidance, or just doesn’t quite hit the mark for practical cops wanting in-person support. Many forces still don’t even have the capability, meaning it often simply doesn’t exist. The latter is the reason I began Rank Success a decade ago, after serving 30 years in policing.
Now forces have an affordable, ready-to-go option with meaningful in-person support for aspiring officers. I’ve refreshed my tried and tested promotion masterclass for in-force delivery. I’ve also created a shorter version for half-day seminars catering for larger audiences.

My Police Promotion and Leadership Seminars focus on the most impactful content for the widest possible audience. This focus concerns core leadership skills and provides candidates with targeted promotion preparation. While ideal for larger audiences, I include Q&A time at the end.
My transparent pricing is per-candidate starting from £79, with discounts available for larger audiences and consecutive day bookings. I can cater for 25 – 100 candidates, assuming your force can provide a suitable venue.
This 4-hour session includes core concepts from my market-leading materials on what works, along with handouts for attendees.
Masterclasses

My Police Promotion and Leadership Masterclass offers comprehensive content and more bespoke support for smaller groups. This provides candidates with intensive promotion preparation and is great for targeted Positive Action. I include personal tailoring for attendees, bespoke handouts, highlighting example evidence at the level expected, with Q&A throughout.
This full day session is fixed at £2,750, with discounts available for consecutive day bookings. These are limited to 6 – 12 candidates, to ensure a personalised approach.
In addition for both the Masterclass and Seminar, I offer significantly discounted downloadable materials or bolt-on coaching support for attendees.

Logistics on the seminars I’ve provided to date have been arranged by aspiring officers who know and have experienced success with Rank Success content, who want to ‘pass the ladder down’ and help their colleagues progress. But events can equally be organised by individuals in your central L&D teams or others booking facilities.
Either way, you simply get folk in a room or lecture hall on a mutually-agreed date, and I’ll come and provide the tried and tested content. It really is that easy! Having the logistics and attendees arranged by forces themselves (or aspiring candidates on their colleagues’ behalf) allows for such competitive pricing.
This support is targeted at officers who have passed the legal exam already, but will also be beneficial development to those thinking about promotion as part of career progression.
I provide tailored sessions to the force and should you require, tailored for the specific audience of the events too, for example:
- In-post CPD: Leadership development for those already in post simply seeking to hone their skills.
- Rank-Specific: Tailoring towards each rank, whether PC to Sergeant or Sergeant to Inspector and Chief Inspector.

For each session in each force, I gather quick feedback on the most important aspects of the seminar. I ask officers to simply rate the session and provide a few words summing up the day. The above word cloud presents the words used by attendees; the bigger the word, the more often it was used to describe the event.
